About The Position

This position involves supervising graduate student clinicians in the BYU Speech and Language Clinic, providing direct and indirect supervision, and offering support in assessment and treatment planning. The role includes hands-on teaching through student consultations and co-treatment, instruction on evidence-based therapy techniques, and feedback on clinical writing. The department offers support for CEUs, ASHA and USHA dues, and a stipend for attending ASHA if employed during the Fall semester.

Requirements

  • Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in the State of Utah
  • Current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Must meet ASHA certification standards for supervision (See ASHA 2020 Certification Standards)
  • Experience supervising graduate student clinicians
  • Experience with assessment and treatment of adults and/or children with a wide variety of communication disorders
  • Successful candidate must relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of their employment.

  • Clinical experience with both adult and child populations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision (minimum 25% live supervision per client) while graduate students are in direct contact with clients at the BYU Speech and Language Clinic.
  • Ensure supervision is conducted periodically throughout the semester and in a manner that maintains client welfare.
  • Provide appropriate and timely indirect supervision in the form of verbal and written feedback regarding clinical skills.
  • Provide support and feedback in the planning stages of assessment and treatment.
  • Provide hands-on teaching through student consultations and co-treatment/intervention demonstrations.
  • Provide instruction regarding current evidence-based therapy techniques.
  • Provide verbal feedback on clinical writing during pre-conferences, editing clinical writing, and signing off on all daily notes and reports.
