About the position

The School of Architecture at the University of Minnesota is seeking Adjunct Faculty to teach a variety of courses, including lectures, seminars, design-based courses, and studios or workshops. The courses offered can range from 3 credit half-semester workshops to 6 credit full-semester studio courses, with in-classroom hours varying from 3 hours per week for a 3-credit lecture to 12 hours per week for a 6-credit studio. While the instruction is primarily conducted by full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty, the program also relies heavily on part-time faculty who are often full-time practitioners with a proven history of providing quality instruction in their areas of expertise. Currently, adjunct faculty are responsible for teaching approximately one-third of the architecture and design courses offered annually in the school. Applications for these positions are reviewed as openings occur, and candidates may be invited to interview when their skills or areas of expertise align with the needs of the program. This posting aims to establish a pool of instructors across degree programs, with applications reviewed throughout the academic year and summer. The School is committed to attracting candidates from historically underrepresented groups, recognizing that diversity enriches the academic experience and fosters innovation. This is a term, non-tenured, Academic Professional and Administrative (P&A) position, with pay based on a per course, per credit basis. Appointments are typically arranged semester by semester, and employment is contingent upon the course meeting its enrollment target. It is important to note that there are no benefits associated with adjunct teaching positions. The School is currently seeking adjunct instructors for the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters.
