About the position
The Adjunct Instructor of Astronomy at San Juan College is a part-time faculty role focused on teaching college-level courses and labs in Astronomy. The position is temporary and appointed on a semester-by-semester basis, with responsibilities including developing instructional materials, evaluating student learning, and maintaining student records. The instructor may teach in various formats including day, evening, weekend, and online classes, and is expected to participate in professional development activities while promoting the college's values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence.
Responsibilities
- Develop and revise instructional materials for Astronomy courses.
- Present course material in an organized manner.
- Evaluate student learning and maintain student records.
- Teach day, evening, weekend, and online classes as assigned.
- Maintain a minimum of 1 office hour per week per assigned course.
- Participate in Adjunct Professional Development activities.
- Demonstrate and promote the school values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence.
Requirements
- Doctorate or Master's Degree in Astronomy, or
- Master's Degree and 18 graduate hours in Astronomy related coursework, or
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience excluding teaching.
- Experience with traditional face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses.
- Ability to use San Juan College's Learning Management System (Canvas).
- Access to home internet, a personal computer, and telephone.
Nice-to-haves
- Prior teaching experience is preferred.
- Experience with technology-enhanced curriculum.
