About the position

The Adjunct Instructor for Criminal Justice at Durham Technical Community College is responsible for teaching courses in the Human Services and Public Safety Department. This role involves course preparation, delivery, grading, and maintaining records, while closely collaborating with the Director of Criminal Justice. The instructor is expected to stay updated with developments in the field and comply with institutional and accrediting body standards.

Responsibilities

  • Teach all courses as assigned for the full duration of scheduled instruction.
  • Prepare an approved lesson plan for each class session.
  • Enforce academic policy and procedures and comply with institutional/accrediting body rules and regulations.
  • Stay current with developments in the field of instruction and comply with certifying accreditation standards.
  • Prepare for offsite/classroom instruction, including maintenance and cleanup, and recommend necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain national, state, and college credentials supporting the role of the adjunct instructor and participate in required training.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • N.C. General Instructor certification or Professional Lecture certification issued by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission, or a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or a closely related field, or a master's degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (minimum of 18 graduate semester hours).
  • At least two years of online teaching experience is preferred.
