About the position

The Actuated Launch Vehicle Engineer II at Blue Origin plays a crucial role in supporting the refurbishment cycles of the New Shepard suborbital rocket system. This position focuses on implementing design changes, managing non-conformances, and ensuring the safe and repeatable operation of flight vehicles. The engineer will collaborate with teams in both Kent, WA and Van Horn, TX, contributing to the mission of lowering the cost of access to space while maintaining high safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Support refurbishment cycles of fielded flight vehicles by creating and implementing design changes.
  • Identify and disposition non-conformances during vehicle maintenance.
  • Support preflight integrated vehicle testing and lead preventative vehicle maintenance in the Actuated subsystem lifecycle.
  • Perform risk assessments before vehicle rollout for launch.
  • Provide Engineering Back Room support during flight operations and ops product development.
  • Review inspection results post-flight and implement repairs and upgrades to prepare vehicles for subsequent launches.
  • Conduct post-flight data reviews and track resulting anomalies.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to overcome logistics and resource challenges.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent experience in aerospace, marine, automotive, or ground support systems.
  • Demonstrated track record in aerospace or related industry in the full lifecycle management of hydraulic actuation control systems.
  • Intermediate knowledge of mechanisms, fluids, electrical, software, etc.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and CAD models.
  • Strong technical communication skills, including written, visual, and verbal communication.
  • Ability to provide solutions to technical problems using company policies and procedures.
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to remain composed under pressure.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2+ years of technical experience in propulsion, pneumatics, cryogenics, avionics, hydraulics, life support, or test engineering.
  • Experience with crewed vehicles in aerospace, land, or marine environments.
  • Passion for the space industry and human access to space.
