About The Position

The Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Instructor is responsible for curriculum development, assessment, and instruction of those seeking to gain daily living independence and confidence. Upon receiving referrals, ranging from kindergarten through adulthood, from the Case Manager, the ADL Instructor performs all duties relevant to producing successful outcomes for blind and low vision clients including functional home management skills as well as commonly used technology and blind specific devices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a concentration in rehabilitation, education, psychology, sociology, or a related field in rehabilitation teaching, rehabilitation, or education of people with disabilities.
  • One year of work experience
  • Food Handler License
  • Effective teaching and instructional skills in individual and group settings
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
  • Ability to adapt instruction to meet individual client needs and learning styles
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management
  • Ability to demonstrate, model, and reinforce independent living skills and techniques
  • Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to support client success
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, basic office technology, and client management systems (Salesforce preferred)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Positive, mission-driven approach with a passion for empowering others toward independence

Responsibilities

  • Formulate and manage program curriculum including lesson plans and individual study materials
  • Evaluate client abilities and develop individualized instruction plans that cover both instructors’ recommended goals and client identified goals
  • Evaluate and train clients on tablets, iOS devices, and cell phone devices covering tablet and/or phone set up, Accessibility features set up, app training
  • Evaluate and train clients on their independent skills covering: Cooking, cleaning, personal care, and home management using adaptive tools and techniques
  • Document progress and adapt plans as needed
  • Track notes, tasks, and program data in a CRM (Salesforce) to manage client interactions, ensuring important information, deadlines, and follow-ups are easily accessible for better decision-making and timely actions.
  • Collaborate with team members and provide support for clients with vocational and educational goals
  • Perform duties under the TWC contract, including delivering instruction, completing necessary documentation, and maintaining required certifications.
  • Assist with Vision Awareness Training
  • Provide in-home training as needed
  • Plan, organize, and lead events that foster independence, enjoyment, and a supportive atmosphere for participants
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in client management system and provide reports as required
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized instructional kitchen environment by performing routine sanitation, inventory management, and scheduled deep-cleaning tasks to ensure compliance with health, safety, and program standards.
  • Maintain frequent communication with ADL clients to monitor progress
  • Perform other duties as assigned
