About the position

The Activities Assistant is responsible for planning, developing, organizing, and implementing a variety of activities that cater to the social, emotional, physical, and therapeutic needs of residents. This role involves assessing residents' needs, collaborating with management, ensuring compliance with regulations, and managing volunteers to enhance the quality of life for seniors in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Assess residents and design activity programs to meet their functional levels, needs, interests, and choices.
  • Communicate regularly with the management team and participate in census development meetings to establish goals.
  • Maintain proper documentation and perform quality assessment and assurance functions.
  • Serve on the quality and assurance committee and conduct daily regulatory compliance rounds.
  • Observe activities and review records to implement corrective measures as needed.
  • Assist in the development and update of activities policies and procedures.
  • Participate in survey processes and instruct staff on compliance and reporting.
  • Manage volunteers, including their recruitment, orientation, training, and recognition.
  • Maintain and apply current skills and knowledge through continuing education and in-service programs.
  • Assist residents in organizing and developing a residents' council.

Requirements

  • Background in social work, caregiving, or recreational therapy is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a high level of energy and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, sitting, lifting up to 50 pounds, and exposure to medical equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with computer skills (2 years preferred).
