About the position

The Accounts Receivable Specialist & Accountant is a key member of the fiscal department. The primary responsibility of the position is the collection and reporting of moneys owed to the college in accordance to its policies and procedures. The position will also be responsible for various accounting functions within the fiscal department as assigned by the supervisor. This position will be a part of implementing new processes to support the College's growth and mission.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the timely billing and collection of student account balances, including contacting students regarding their account balances, providing reports to appropriate staff regarding status of student account balances, being primarily responsible for ensuring that students follow through on payment plans, and providing insights and recommendations to management regarding the collection of student accounts.
  • Ensure the timely billing and collection of the college's accounts receivable, invoicing on behalf of the college's various revenue centers, and providing reports regarding the aging and receipt of invoices.
  • Provide support with third party billing.
  • Act as the liaison for the student account appeals process.
  • Provide support in posting journal entries.
  • Provide support to the fiscal department's reporting processes.
  • Provide support to payroll function.
  • General bookkeeping as required by the department.
  • Operate within college's policies and procedures.
  • Recommend improvements to the College's processes and procedures and work with manager to implement improvements.
  • Provide additional support to the fiscal office as needed, including accounts payable, purchasing, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Provide confidential information for bargaining unit contract negotiations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required; Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • 1 to 3 years of accounts receivable experience preferred.
  • Accurate and thorough in completing tasks.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of integrity.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles.
  • Proficient in technology related to the field.
