About the position

The Accounting Manager at Bering Straits Native Corporation is responsible for overseeing all aspects of general ledger accounting, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and preparing financial statements. This role involves monitoring internal controls, revenue recognition, and providing financial analysis to management. The position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to mentor lower-level staff while managing multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of general ledger accounting, including preparation, review and approval of monthly journal entries.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations of subsidiary ledgers and bank reconciliations.
  • Manage monthly accruals and reversals, and fixed asset accounting.
  • Monitor and enforce internal controls to ensure integrity and accuracy of financial information.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards including GAAP and FAR.
  • Oversee monthly revenue recognition and analysis according to ASC 606.
  • Prepare and publish monthly and yearly financial statements and management reports.
  • Analyze monthly operating results against budget and assist in preparing annual budgets.
  • Monitor unbilled accounts to ensure timely billing.
  • Prepare financial information for compliance reporting to government agencies.
  • Assist with preparing audit schedules and financial data for annual audits.
  • Provide timely reviews of the organization's financial status to management.
  • Prepare financial variance analysis for project management.
  • Mentor and train lower-level staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years of experience with Deltek Costpoint accounting system or similar ERP system in a multi-company environment.
  • Two years of diversified accounting experience including project, government contracting, and consolidated financial statements.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Effective presentation skills to respond to questions from managers, clients, and the public.
  • Strong organizational skills to meet deadlines while multi-tasking.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum of ten years of experience in the field.
  • CPA or CMA certificate (or imminent CPA/CMA candidates).
