About the position

The Accounting Analyst at the Mountain View Correctional Facility is responsible for performing complex accounting and analytical work within established procedures. This role involves supervising a team of accounting personnel, managing day-to-day operations, and collaborating with agency managers and facility leaders. The position requires a detail-oriented professional who can work independently in a dynamic environment while utilizing advanced accounting principles and technology.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex and advanced accounting and analytical work.
  • Supervise and monitor the work of subordinate state employees and interns.
  • Manage day-to-day operations for Mountain View Correctional Facility and Downeast Correctional Facility.
  • Collaborate with agency managers and facility leaders to ensure effective financial management.
  • Prepare narrative and statistical reports, financial statements, and projections.
  • Review fiscal transactions for compliance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Recommend improvements in accounting controls and business practices.

Requirements

  • Six years of practical work experience in a professional accounting environment OR an Associate's Degree in Accounting with three years of experience OR a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with relevant coursework.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting theories, principles, methods, practices, and terminology.
  • Experience with governmental accounting standards and computerized accounting systems.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to write clearly and effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a correctional facility or governmental accounting environment.
  • Familiarity with supervisory principles and practices.
