About the position

The Lead Accountant will serve in the BUPERS Financial Operations Branch, focusing on Navy Military Pay Operations and Accounting. This role involves providing expert accounting advice and assistance related to military personnel and Navy pay, ensuring compliance with federal requirements, and enhancing the effectiveness of accounting systems and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accounting advice and assistance on military personnel and Navy pay issues.
  • Analyze and evaluate military pay accounting programs and practices.
  • Examine internal control systems for effectiveness and adequacy.
  • Design, develop, and maintain military pay accounting finance and reporting systems.
  • Perform audits and reviews to ensure the accuracy of financial statements.

Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
  • Experience evaluating accounting and reporting systems for military pay compliance.
  • Ability to develop solutions to military pay accounting issues.
  • Experience coordinating with personnel on military pay accounting programs.
  • Experience briefing management on military pay programs and operations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certification.
  • Experience in federal government accounting practices.
