About the position

The Accountant V at Mount Wachusett Community College is responsible for maintaining accurate account records and supporting various accounting functions within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This role involves preparing and analyzing financial reports, conducting reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The Accountant V will also collaborate with college administration to improve processes and support diversity initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare various external reports along with federal and state reporting for the College and Foundation.
  • Maintain Ellucian Banner interface with payroll transactions completed in state payroll system, including employee fringe benefits.
  • Complete fund transfers in MMARS and Banner for biweekly payroll transactions.
  • Assist in the preparation, processing, and reconciling of the RT/TV 901 monthly interface in MMARS.
  • Assist in the preparation, review and reconciliation of feed transactions from external modules to Finance module including state chargebacks.
  • Assist in the quarterly and year-end closing procedures and preparation of financial statements for the College and Foundation.
  • Assist auditors and/or Comptroller in the annual audit of both the College and Foundation, preparing and coordinating audit work papers and financial analysis.
  • Prepare year-end payroll accrual journal voucher entries and support year-end activities related to payroll.
  • Responsible for Bank and MMARS appropriation reconciliations, completing transactional activity as needed.
  • Maintain records for complex allocation charges and usage.
  • Assist Accounts Payable with reviews and research variance in general ledger accounts, assisting Cost Center Heads with accounts payable questions.
  • Prepare general, adjusting, and correcting journal entries.
  • Participate in system implementation efforts, supporting process improvements and creating efficient processes.
  • Work actively with other areas of the college to ensure collaboration and teamwork.
  • Confers with agency personnel and outside agencies to resolve accounting discrepancies and obtain data for reports.
  • Assist Payroll with processing manual payroll checks when necessary.
  • Serve as backup for college business office functions as needed.

Requirements

  • Five years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in accounting or auditing.
  • At least three years must have been in a supervisory, administrative or managerial capacity.
  • An Associate's degree in accounting, business administration or business management may substitute for one year of experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration or business management may substitute for two years of experience.
  • A Graduate degree in accounting, business administration or business management may substitute for two years of experience and one year of required managerial experience.
