About the position

The Accountant IV position at the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is a senior-level role responsible for overseeing fiscal services within the Division of Water Supply Protection. This role involves managing accounts payable, budgeting, and procurement processes while ensuring compliance with state regulations. The Accountant IV will work closely with department managers, vendors, and other state agencies to provide financial analysis and support, as well as supervise accounting staff to ensure effective operations.

Responsibilities

  • Process and analyze MMARS financial transactions for accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide oversight and training to accounting staff to ensure adherence to purchasing rules.
  • Maintain and reconcile vendor statements and resolve billing discrepancies.
  • Prepare purchase orders and payment documents, ensuring proper procurement methods are followed.
  • Act as a fiscal liaison with agency personnel and vendors to provide technical assistance.
  • Create queries and statistical reports using financial databases to analyze expenditure patterns.
  • Assist in developing and implementing procedures to improve fiscal activities.
  • Examine employee reimbursement requests for accuracy and compliance.

Requirements

  • Four years of full-time professional experience in accounting or auditing.
  • Two years of experience in a supervisory, administrative, or managerial capacity.
  • An Associate's degree in accounting, business administration, or business management may substitute for one year of experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree may substitute for up to two years of experience.
  • A Graduate degree may substitute for up to two years of experience and one year of supervisory experience.
