About The Position

The Accountant II role is responsible for providing leadership to cashier, other accountants and coordinators within the accounting department, while also collaborating with the Controller/Assistant Controller to ensure compliance in maintaining hospital financial records. This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field, with over 3 years of experience in public accounting, preferably in a healthcare environment. The role also demands over 3 years of experience analyzing data using spreadsheets and over 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is essential, along with the ability to articulate accounting principles, perform rapid and accurate arithmetic computations, and operate computer and calculator by touch. The individual must have good attention to detail and the ability to post and compute figures and prepare financial statements following standard methods and procedures. This role involves interactions with other accountants, department directors, and senior-level management within the hospital. The position occasionally requires exerting a small amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull, and move objects up to 10 lbs, and involves sitting for prolonged periods.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
  • +3 years of experience in public accounting, preferably healthcare environment
  • +3 years analyzing data using spreadsheets
  • +1 year of demonstrated leadership leading people and/or processes
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint)
  • Able to articulate applied principles and procedures of accounting
  • Numerical ability to perform rapid and accurate arithmetic computations with or without adding machine/calculator
  • Ability to operate computer and calculator by touch
  • Good attention to detail; Ability to post and compute figures and prepare financial statements following standard methods and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and oversight for cashiers and general ledger coordinators
  • Prepare accounting records in accordance with GAAP/GASB
  • Investigate errors and correct as needed
  • Participate in audit reviews
  • Assess financial impact of services, programs, and monitor financial cost for ongoing services
  • Prepare documents/reports in response to inquiries from state, federal, or third party payers
  • Create and maintain statistical reports
  • Collaborate with Controller/Assistant Controller to ensure compliance
  • All other related duties assigned under accounting
