About the position

The Access and Delivery Services Associate at the University of Oregon Libraries is a customer-focused role responsible for providing assistance at public service desks, explaining library services, and helping patrons access print and digital materials. This position involves opening and closing library branches, training Library Assistants, and participating in various committees to enhance library services. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a commitment to professional development, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse community.

Responsibilities

  • Work at one or more public service desks to assist customers with library services and policies.
  • Help patrons find and use print and digital materials.
  • Open and close library branches as needed.
  • Train and oversee Library Assistants.
  • Shelve, reshelve, move, and organize library materials and shelving areas.
  • Participate in library, university, and professional committees and taskforces.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities related to equity, inclusion, accessibility, and social justice.

Requirements

  • 2 years of current library experience (within five years) OR an Associate's degree (or equivalent 72 quarter hours or 48 semester hours) and 1 year of current experience; OR an equivalent combination of current library experience, training, and/or education in related fields.
  • Proficiency in multiple library-specific computer applications, e.g., integrated library systems, database applications, institutional repository, content management systems.
  • Ability to consistently provide professional customer service.
  • Effective communication skills, including in written formats.
  • Ability to manage time appropriately and complete assignments with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others.
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems.
  • Ability to adapt to new situations, technologies, and processes.
  • Ability to work within and foster a diverse work environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using the Ex Libris Alma/Primo Fulfillment system.
  • Experience supervising, overseeing, or leading the work of colleagues or volunteers.
