About the position

The NSF Center for Analysis and Prediction of Pandemic Expansion (APPEX) at the University of Tennessee is seeking a post-doctoral research associate to explore social dynamics within collaborative scientific teams. This role focuses on understanding the impact of diversity on group dynamics and performance, aiming to develop evidence-based practices for future scientific teams involved in pandemic research.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement research on communicative and collaborative aspects of APPEX cross-disciplinary team science.
  • Disseminate research results through publications, presentations, and other accessible formats.
  • Collaboratively deliver workshops and collect associated data.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in a social science field, philosophy with a social science emphasis, or an interdisciplinary field that includes a social science component by the time of the appointment.
  • Research experience in social psychology, statistical methods, mixed methods, program evaluation research, small group dynamics, philosophy of science, and communication theory.
  • Technical skills for data analysis and visualization, with strong skills in social science mixed methods research design and implementation.
  • Ability to interact with members of other disciplines and integrate concepts from related fields.
  • Ability to write clearly and scientifically, with evidence of successful prior publication preferred.
  • Experience, knowledge, and training in the tools and techniques used in the Science of Team Science (SciTS).
