About the position

The 911 Dispatcher position at METCOM 911 is a full-time role responsible for managing emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching police, fire, and ambulance services. This role requires proficiency in operating complex communication equipment and the ability to multitask in a high-pressure environment. As essential personnel, dispatchers must be dependable and available to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, while maintaining a positive customer service attitude.

Responsibilities

• Receive and triage emergency and non-emergency calls using complex communication equipment.
• Dispatch emergency responders based on the nature of the calls received.
• Maintain accurate records of events and written logs for legal proceedings.
• Effectively communicate in English over the telephone and maintain a positive customer service attitude.
• Multi-task by using a phone, computer, and radio simultaneously while retaining information.
• Complete and maintain required certifications such as CPR, EMD, and Oregon Basic Telecommunicator.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Typing speed of at least 45 words per minute with high accuracy.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English over the telephone.
• Ability to achieve and maintain Basic Telecommunicator and Emergency Medical Dispatch certification through the State of Oregon.
• Successfully complete all phases of pre-employment testing.
