About the position

The 5th Grade Science Teacher at BakerRipley Community Schools is responsible for providing high-quality, innovative instruction that supports the whole-child approach. This role emphasizes the development of students through engaging curriculum, assessment, and collaboration with families and the community to ensure students receive a comprehensive education. The teacher will design and implement lesson plans, assess student performance, and maintain a positive classroom culture while fostering relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Applies the Understanding by Design framework to design standards-based curriculum.
  • Differentiates lesson plans for students based on their unique learning profiles.
  • Designs formative and summative assessments aligned with course objectives.
  • Uses assessment data to modify plans targeting areas for improvement.
  • Designs classroom procedures to maximize learning time.
  • Continuously reflects on teaching practices to increase student achievement.
  • Submits up-to-date unit plans, lesson plans, and grades.
  • Facilitates meaningful learning experiences and checks for understanding frequently.
  • Communicates high expectations for character and behavior.
  • Evaluates and tracks student performance and adjusts teaching accordingly.
  • Maintains a positive classroom culture of high expectations for all students.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to ensure alignment of academic habits and mindsets.
  • Participates in professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Contacts parents or guardians to praise or address issues with students.
  • Creates a welcoming environment that instills values of respect and kindness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or related field preferred.
  • At least one year of work-related experience with strong outcomes preferred.
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate or acceptance to an approved Alternative Certification Program.
  • NCLB Highly Qualified status as required by teaching assignment.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to establish rapport with families and children.
  • Commitment to the vision, mission, values, and goals of BakerRipley Community Schools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred but not required.
  • Effective STEM classroom experience with proven outcomes.
