About the position

The Wastewater Heavy Duty Maintenance Mechanic position at Pima County Government involves operating and maintaining equipment used in the production of renewable energies at the Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department. The role requires a strong mechanical background and expertise in renewable energy, contributing to the mission of producing clean sustainable energy.

Responsibilities

  • Perform operational and preventive maintenance of complex heavy-duty industrial equipment and machinery utilizing hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Fabricate, construct, install, repair, and align heavy-duty industrial equipment and machinery such as deep well pumps and piping systems.
  • Perform critical repairs to complex systems and equipment to maintain system integrity and functions according to standards and regulations.
  • Interpret and apply required codes or standards to work situations.
  • Interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and diagrams to facilitate work.
  • Prepare working sketches, drawings, and estimates of resources required for assigned projects.
  • Repair or operate specialized equipment such as submersible pumps and industrial stationary engines.
  • Coordinate equipment and system modifications or maintenance with operations and maintenance staff.
  • Inspect, service, and maintain common and specialized tools, equipment, and vehicles used in performance of duties.
  • Utilize and ensure fellow staff utilizes standard occupational safety practices and equipment.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of work performed and modifications to equipment or systems.
  • Prepare periodic and special reports for management on equipment and systems maintained.
  • Conduct on-the-job training of operators and maintenance staff.
  • May inspect and lead the work of equipment operators and maintenance mechanics.

Requirements

  • Six years of mechanical maintenance experience in the fabrication, installation, or repair of large heavy-duty industrial mechanical equipment, deep well turbine pumps, submersible or centrifugal booster pumps.
  • OR three years of experience with Pima County as a Trades Maintenance Specialist performing mechanical maintenance work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Possess an ADEQ grade 1 or higher in Wastewater treatment.
  • Minimum four years experience using an industrial Computerized Scada or similar program.
  • Minimum four years experience using Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
