About the position
The New Orleans Speech and Hearing Center (NOSHC) is seeking a 4th year extern for a rotating externship position from June 2025 to May 2026. This role is designed for students in their Audiology Doctoral Program, providing hands-on experience in a community speech and hearing center. The extern will engage in various audiological services, including diagnostic testing for both adults and children, and will receive a stipend along with opportunities for continuing education.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive diagnostic audiological testing for adults and children.
- Perform VRA and play audiometry for pediatric clients.
- Administer tympanometry and acoustic reflex testing.
- Engage in auditory processing disorder testing and screening.
- Dispense and program hearing aids, providing counseling to clients.
- Participate in regular hearing screenings and evaluations for both adult and pediatric clients.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Audiology or related field.
- Completion of 3 years in an Audiology Doctoral Program.
- Competence in adult diagnostic testing prior to the externship.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with pediatric audiological testing.
- Familiarity with hearing aid dispensing and programming.
