About the position
The 2nd Shift Machine Operator at Oldcastle APG is responsible for operating plant machinery while adhering to safety policies and procedures to ensure the production of high-quality outdoor living solutions. This role requires attention to detail, the ability to perform routine maintenance, and collaboration with other operators to meet production deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Operate plant machinery as directed while following safety policies and procedures.
- Read job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
- Set stops or guides to specific lengths as indicated by scale, rule, or templates.
- Observe machine operation to detect product defects or machine malfunctions.
- Review product for inconsistencies or abnormal appearance to ensure quality requirements are met.
- Perform routine machine maintenance.
- Assist other operators in setting up machines and completing necessary tasks to meet deadlines.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
- Fill in when additional help is needed for various tasks.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; or at least 1 month of related experience in trades specific to job requirements; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
- Leadership skills.
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Problem-solving skills involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- High level of accuracy in work assignments.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/move up to 50 lbs.
