About the position

The Scholar Support Coordinator (SSC) plays a crucial role in facilitating special education processes at Achievement Prep, ensuring compliance and excellence in service delivery for students with disabilities. The SSC collaborates with the special education team to meet the needs of all Star Scholars, ensuring that services align with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and comply with federal and state regulations. Reporting to the Director of Scholar Support, the SSC manages administrative tasks, oversees IEP and 504 plan processes, and provides instructional leadership to support teachers in meeting the needs of scholars with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate special education processes at the campus level ensuring compliance and excellence.
  • Meet weekly with the Scholar Support Coordinator and/or Scholar Support Director to align and plan for Star Scholars.
  • Manage Special Programs (Powerschool) and supporting documentation for scholars with disabilities.
  • Work with operations and enrollment staff to ensure timely collection and review of new Star Scholar IEPs, evaluations, and progress reports.
  • Schedule testing and coordinate with families, teachers, related service providers, and evaluators.
  • Provide families with documentation related to special education processes at least five days prior to evaluation team meetings.
  • Adhere to compliance timelines outlined in Achievement Prep's Special Education Policy and Procedural Manual.
  • Draft and finalize all Special Programs documentation efficiently and accurately.
  • Ensure all testing accommodations and modifications for Star Scholars are documented and implemented.
  • Provide information for mediation, dispute resolution sessions, and due process procedures.
  • Train scholar support staff in the use of special education systems.
  • Maintain confidential, accurate, and up-to-date scholar records.
  • Oversee the drafting and implementation of IEP goals and service hours for scholars.
  • Review and revise IEPs from incoming scholars' prior schools.
  • Coordinate and execute the annual IEP or triennial evaluation process according to deadlines.
  • Coordinate with teachers to ensure IEP quarterly progress reports are completed and provided to families.
  • Manage the transition process for eligible scholars to support their success beyond Achievement Prep.
  • Serve as owner and facilitator of the 504 annual review process.
  • Create and manage 504 plans for scholars with disabilities.
  • Coach and develop a campus-based team of teachers and aides.
  • Observe each scholar support teacher and provide feedback.
  • Hold weekly one-on-one coaching meetings with each scholar support teacher.
  • Analyze data for Star Scholars to drive decisions and additional supports.
  • Engage in additional school-wide responsibilities and embody core values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Certification, degree, or licensure in special education
  • 3+ years of teaching special education in an urban setting
  • 1+ years of special education coordinator or case management experience
  • Ability to attend one to two meetings per week outside of normal hours.
