About the position

The School Security Officer at St. Augustine Preparatory Academy is responsible for maintaining a safe environment for students and staff within the K-12 school setting. This role involves implementing school regulations, monitoring the premises, and fostering trusted relationships with the school community. Responsibilities

• Support the school's educational mission and implement regulations fairly.
• Patrol and monitor assigned areas to ensure safety.
• Work positively with students and de-escalate difficult situations.
• Detect, investigate, and report unauthorized or suspicious activities.
• Assist in crisis and emergency situations as needed.
• Supervise student transitions through hallways.
• Notify the Head of Security of emergency situations.
• Investigate student violations and prepare reports.
• Assist with fire drills and other emergency drills.
• Attend and complete all required staff development training.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience in security and/or school settings.
• Knowledge of standard security procedures and best practices.
• Effective oral and written communication skills; bilingual in Spanish preferred.
• Proficiency in using Google software.
• Completion of college-level courses in security, teacher assistant, or criminal justice preferred.

Nice-to-haves

• Previous experience working with youth in a classroom or similar setting.
• Participation in a local church.
