About the position
The Spanish Bilingual Resource Specialist (BRS) position at Madison Metropolitan School District is designed to support Spanish-speaking students and their families across the district. This role involves providing academic, linguistic, and cultural support to English Learners (ELs) in collaboration with teaching staff and school administration. The BRS will facilitate communication, assist with student placement, and help families navigate the school system, ensuring that all students receive the necessary resources to thrive academically and socially.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and adhere to a weekly schedule of academic and linguistic support for English Learners (ELs).
- Provide academic, linguistic, and cultural support in the classroom in collaboration with teaching staff.
- Facilitate and enhance communication, including translation and interpretation for students and families.
- Build relationships with English Learners (ELs) and their families.
- Collaborate with school staff, including administrators and teachers, to support ELs.
- Assist families and students in navigating the school system and available services.
- Support the ESL/Bilingual Resource Teacher (BRT) with communication regarding ESL status and services.
- Help transition newcomers into student life through social, emotional, and academic support.
- Provide support to ELs in core academic instruction under the guidance of the classroom teacher.
- Facilitate communication between linguistically and/or culturally different parties.
Requirements
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English, with native-like proficiency in oral and written communication.
- Good understanding and cultural knowledge of both Spanish and English languages.
- Excellent computer skills and ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to interpret consecutively and simultaneously.
