About the position

The School Custodian position at Ellensburg High School involves manual work related to general cleaning and routine maintenance tasks under the supervision of the Maintenance/Custodial Director and the Head Custodian. The role requires thorough execution of established cleaning routines and may involve reassignment to different facilities as needed to maintain efficient operations.

Responsibilities

  • Vacuums carpet or sweeps and dust floors in classrooms, offices and halls.
  • Empties all wastebaskets and pencil sharpeners.
  • Checks and restocks paper product dispensers in classrooms and restrooms.
  • Sweeps and mops with disinfectant all restrooms and nurses room floors.
  • Cleans and disinfects all drinking fountains, toilet bowls, urinals, and sinks.
  • Cleans doors, door knobs, and windows inside and out as necessary.
  • Spot cleans carpets, walls, and floors as needed.
  • Replaces burned out light bulbs when needed.
  • Checks for vandalism daily and notifies the Lead Custodian or Head Custodian.
  • Secures all doors and windows and extinguishes lights when leaving the facility at night.
  • Helps with small watering chores seasonally and removes snow in winter.
  • Cleans building interiors and exteriors during vacation periods using various cleaning products and equipment.
  • Paints and redecorates classrooms, halls, and other parts of the facilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of custodial and safety procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of the operation and maintenance of high and low pressure boilers.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical and plumbing for emergencies.
  • Skills in verbal and written communications.
  • Ability to interact positively and confidently with students, staff, and the general public.
  • Knowledge of the care of floors, including sealing, waxing, and polishing.
  • Ability to accept direction and respond to constructive criticism.
  • Ability to perform assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Physical ability to climb ladders to a height of 40 feet.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to be flexible, organized, and manage time effectively.
  • Maintain a neat, clean personal appearance.
