About the position

The Chemical Biotechnologies Intern position is part of the Future Talent Program, offering a 12-week internship within the Research & Development Division. Interns will engage in scientific research projects, contributing to the invention and development of biomolecules that advance the company's pipeline. This role provides hands-on experience in a laboratory environment, focusing on biocatalysis, protein engineering, and microfluidics, while working alongside experienced scientists.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the invention and development of biomolecules in the Chemical Biotechnologies group.
  • Engage in laboratory research focusing on biocatalysis, protein engineering, and microfluidics.
  • Develop novel approaches and proteins to enable access to biologically active compounds.
  • Participate in departmental and project team meetings to understand the drug discovery process.
  • Record research findings accurately in electronic notebooks and adhere to safe laboratory practices.
  • Present research results in both oral and written formats.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled sophomore, junior, or senior pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or Material Science; or a graduate student pursuing a Master's or Ph.D. in the same fields.
  • Completion of at least two years of studies toward a bachelor's degree by May 2025.
  • Availability to work full-time for approximately 11-12 weeks from May - August 2025.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Nice-to-haves

  • Significant interest in organic chemistry, enzymology, protein design, directed evolution, chemical engineering, or bioengineering.
  • Basic laboratory skills and research experience, including lab notebook recording and safe lab practices.
  • Experience with chemistry laboratory set-up techniques and purification methods.
  • Exposure to analytical techniques such as HPLC, NMR spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry.
  • Experience with PCR techniques and biochemical assays.
