About the position

Quill Tree Books is seeking an intern to assist in the book publishing process for children's and teen literature. This internship offers a unique opportunity to learn alongside a dedicated team of editors while engaging with a diverse range of titles and genres. The role emphasizes the importance of literary quality and representation in publishing, providing interns with hands-on experience in evaluating manuscripts and contributing to various editorial tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Reading and evaluating manuscript submissions
  • Writing reader's reports
  • Learning to write cover copy, title sheets, backmatter/frontmatter content, etc.
  • Conducting additional projects such as author research and market research for specific genres/books
  • Attending various department meetings

Requirements

  • Computer proficiency with working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Teams, Outlook) and Adobe programs
  • Attention to detail, including proofreading and task prioritization
  • Excellent communication, time-management, and organizational skills
  • Interest in learning about the publishing industry, particularly children's literature
  • A love of books, especially children's books
  • Availability to work full-time in 2025 or 2026, open to rising seniors, recent graduates, master's students, or entry-level candidates with up to two years of work experience
