About the position

The Data Scientist internship at Princess Cruises is a 10-week paid remote opportunity aimed at providing students with exposure to professional careers in the leisure travel and cruise industry. Interns will contribute to data science initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and guest experiences by working on machine learning projects, data analysis, and developing data models and visualizations.

Responsibilities

• Drive execution of machine learning projects in alignment with the strategic roadmap.
• Leverage data science tools to analyze large datasets and develop custom models/algorithms.
• Design, build, and launch new data models and visualizations in production.
• Deliver data insights through dashboards, memos, and presentations.
• Analyze data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement.
• Develop and optimize databases, data models, and ETL processes in data warehouse environments.
• Monitor the performance and impact of data science initiatives and provide regular reports to management.
• Gather, extract, and compile data across sources using tools like SQL and Python.
• Build analytics tools to provide actionable insights into operational efficiency.
• Collect and analyze data to identify trends related to guest experience and operational efficiency.
• Promote best practices of data science and communication throughout the organization.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and provide insights.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
• 2 years of work experience with analysis applications and coding (Python, R, SQL), or 2 years with a Master's degree.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite including Outlook & MS Teams.
• Strong SQL skills and ability to create queries and build tables.
• Extensive experience with SQL and database concepts.
• Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
• Experience with data orchestration/ETL tools (e.g., Airflow).

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in data science or engineering roles.
• Familiarity with Data Modeling techniques and Data Warehousing best practices.
• Experience writing ETL processes.
• Proven experience with at least one major RDBMS.
• Experience with programming languages (e.g., Python, Pyspark, R).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
