About the position

The 2025 Field Logistics Technician (FLT) position at Utah Conservation Corps is a seasonal full-time role focused on providing leadership and logistical support to field crews engaged in conservation projects. The FLT will work closely with crew leaders and members, ensuring they are well-prepared for their tasks while fostering a positive and safe working environment. This role requires a commitment to conservation work, mentorship, and the ability to adapt to varying schedules and project needs throughout the field seasons.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical, logistical, and operational support to field crews.
  • Supports field crews with training, guidance, and constructive feedback.
  • Serves as a role model, resource, peer counselor, and advisor for field crews.
  • Cultivates a supportive learning environment for Crew Leaders and Crew Members.
  • Conducts regular risk management audits in the field.
  • Verifies compliance with UCC protocols, procedures, and policies; reports violations to UCC staff.
  • Participates in weekly check-in calls from crews in the field.
  • Oversees and/or leads the rig-up (pre-hitch) and de-rig (post-hitch) of crews at the field office.
  • Acts as a temporary crew leader, as needed.
  • Communicates tool and equipment needs to UCC field staff.
  • Helps with maintenance and inventory of hand tools, chain saws, brush cutters, camp equipment, and more.
  • Assists with seasonal crew training sessions and provides ongoing training in the field during each field season.

Requirements

  • Trail maintenance and construction experience.
  • Chainsaw training and experience.
  • Experience with group communication, conflict management & resolution skills.
  • Maturity and professionalism.
  • Adaptability in an environment with irregular and changing schedules.
  • Self-motivated with a commitment to personal and professional growth.
  • 6 months minimum leadership or supervisory experience in a team or crew-based setting.
  • Demonstrated outdoor/camping skills (e.g., guiding, conservation work, front country/backcountry skills).
  • Alignment with UCC's mission and values of safety, service, community, inclusivity, positivity, and engagement.
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Eligible to enroll in an AmeriCorps term of service.
  • Pass a National Service Criminal History Check.

Nice-to-haves

  • 6 months experience in conservation corps, public lands management, or work in similar fields.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with administrators, supervisors, and peers.
  • Experience working with and demonstrating leadership in diverse settings.

  • Living allowance of $1,500.00 paid twice per month.

  • $150 reimbursement uniform reimbursement (boots/pants) for a 1700hr term.
