About the position

The Primary Grade Teacher at St. Michael Academy is responsible for fostering the spiritual, intellectual, social, and physical development of children in a Catholic elementary school environment. This full-time position involves teaching in a primary grade classroom, supporting the mission of the Diocese of Nashville, and ensuring that all educational activities align with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Responsibilities

  • Teach full-time in a primary grade classroom for the duration of the school year.
  • Support the unique Catholic mission of the school by acting and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Model Gospel values and participate in school religious and service activities.
  • Prepare for all elements of classroom instruction and interactions with students and colleagues.
  • Plan lessons that implement stated goals and objectives, incorporating school and diocesan curriculum objectives.
  • Demonstrate competence in teaching and communicate effectively with students.
  • Organize classroom learning and materials to maximize student engagement.
  • Cooperate with the principal in developing instructional programs that meet student needs.
  • Evaluate student progress consistently and effectively.
  • Establish a consistent disciplinary approach that promotes self-direction and a positive self-image.
  • Maintain a functional and pleasant learning environment.
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress.
  • Demonstrate professional responsibility in enforcing diocesan and school policies and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including responsibilities for extra-curricular and co-curricular activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field from an accredited university.
  • State of Tennessee Teaching Certificate.
  • Strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Catholic Church.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Strong human relations and interpersonal skills; must be organized and a team player.
  • Proficiency in computer technology, including Microsoft Office and related technology.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and maintain confidentiality.
  • Flexibility in assessing needs and adapting strategies in a ministerial environment.
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal history and background check.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a Catholic school environment.
  • Additional certifications related to education or teaching.
