About the position

The High School Teacher (Grades 9-12) is responsible for teaching one or more classes in a specific subject area, assisting in other school programs as assigned, and working under the immediate direction of the site administrator or designee. The teacher will develop instructional plans, lesson plans, and instructional materials to provide maximum learning opportunities for students, ensuring they meet established achievement standards for their grade level. The role includes evaluating students' academic growth, maintaining accurate records, and communicating with parents and counselors regarding student progress. Additionally, the teacher will administer group tests, identify student needs, and collaborate with other professionals to address health, attitude, and learning problems. Non-instructional duties include maintaining inventory records, reporting attendance, supervising students during non-instructional periods, and participating in faculty committees and student activities. The teacher is also responsible for establishing a suitable learning environment, maintaining standards of student behavior, and ensuring the proper use of school property.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches skills, knowledge, concepts, and attitudes in the subject area(s) to meet established standards of achievement.
  • Develops instructional plans to organize class activities for maximum learning opportunities.
  • Creates lesson plans and instructional materials, providing individualized and small-group instruction.
  • Evaluates students' academic growth and prepares progress reports, communicating with parents and counselors.
  • Administers group tests and utilizes results to identify student needs and provide appropriate instructional activities.
  • Identifies student needs and collaborates with other professional staff to address health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Selects and requests instructional materials and maintains inventory records.
  • Reports student attendance and maintains accurate academic records.
  • Supervises students during passing periods, lunch, and other non-instructional periods.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior for a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Organizes the classroom to provide a maximum learning environment.
  • Maintains lesson plans and instructional materials for substitute teachers.
  • Participates in professional development activities to maintain teaching competence.
  • Collaborates with site administrator to develop evaluation criteria.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of school curriculum and committees.
  • Plans and coordinates the work of aides and volunteers.
  • Attends required meetings and maintains punctuality for all functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field.
  • Valid teaching credential for grades 9-12 in the subject area.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective lesson plans.
  • Experience in evaluating student performance and providing feedback.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in coaching or assisting in athletic programs.
  • Knowledge of special education programs and services.
  • Familiarity with curriculum development processes.
