About the position

The position involves teaching students in a classroom setting, focusing on their development as mature, able, and responsible individuals. The teacher is responsible for planning and implementing a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students. The role requires creating a conducive learning environment, preparing for classes, and maintaining standards of classroom behavior. The teacher will assess student accomplishments, maintain accurate records, and comply with district policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
  • Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media.
  • Strives to implement the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports.
  • Confers with district specialists regarding possible learning disabilities of students.
  • Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required.
  • Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintains order.
  • Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
  • Plans and supervises assignments for teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Works with designated team to meet student needs.
  • Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.
  • Complies with good safety practices.
  • Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Valid Missouri Teacher Certificate
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
