About the position

The Bilingual Educational Diagnostician is responsible for implementing the special education evaluation process. This role involves assessing the educational, learning styles, and program needs of students referred to special education services in both English and Spanish. The diagnostician will provide evaluative information and collaborate with instructional personnel to ensure the most appropriate programs for students with disabilities. Additionally, the position requires representing assessment at ARD meetings, scheduling and conducting these meetings, and ensuring the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) on campuses.

Responsibilities

  • Receive student referrals and implement the assessment and evaluation process.
  • Select and administer formal and informal assessments to determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and Texas Education Agency regulations.
  • Collect and organize relevant assessment data from various sources including cumulative folders, classroom teachers, principals, support staff, parents, and outside agencies.
  • Conduct classroom observations and personal interviews.
  • Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with interpretation of assessment data and development of IEPs.
  • Meet all timelines for initial, specially requested, and triennial evaluations.
  • Follow local, state, and federal requirements for training regarding evaluations for students with Dyslexia.
  • Provide staff development training in assigned schools.
  • Consult with classroom teachers on IEP implementation.
  • Consult with parents regarding educational needs and assessment data interpretation.
  • Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with students and parents.
  • Assist in the selection of assessment materials and equipment.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all required reports and documents.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Ensure that IEP documents are completed accurately and timely.
  • Support Child Find efforts throughout the district.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in educational assessment.
  • Valid Texas Educational Diagnostician and Teaching certification.
  • Fluent Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Ability to administer and interpret evaluation instruments.
  • Strong written, expressive, and receptive Spanish and English language skills.
  • Knowledge of the Special Education, ARD, and IEP process.
  • Strong consultation skills for conferencing with teachers, parents, and students.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, and time management skills.
  • Strong technology skills, proficient in Google Suite and special education student management systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Special education teaching experience.
