About the position

The 2nd Shift Production Supervisor is responsible for leading a multi-department team of CNC Operators and Set-Up Operators in a high mix/low volume aerospace component manufacturing environment. This role combines technical expertise in CNC machining with strong interpersonal skills to motivate the team towards achieving common goals. The supervisor will manage daily priorities, optimize processes, and lead continuous improvement initiatives while also being actively involved in production operations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct security, quality, and EH&S audits to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Set-up and operate CNC machines according to operation sheet instructions.
  • Provide technical support for the team.
  • Coordinate time-off requests to ensure adequate staffing levels.
  • Motivate the team to meet daily, weekly, and monthly goals.
  • Identify waste and non-value-added tasks.
  • Measure, monitor, and publish team performance against department standards.
  • Complete periodic performance evaluations and address issues in real-time.
  • Host daily GEMBA walks and facilitate communication between operators and cross-functional teams.
  • Attend production and quality meetings as needed.
  • Collaborate with engineering, purchasing, production, and sales teams to resolve open issues.
  • Partner with production control to stage daily and weekly priorities.
  • Ensure timely completion of jobs and sustained productivity.
  • Maintain ERP data integrity and report discrepancies.
  • Develop and author standard work for production equipment operation.
  • Coach and train teammates in best practices and safety policies.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in manufacturing precision machined components in a regulated industry.
  • Experience in a high mix, low volume shop with an emphasis on lean manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of ISO/AS quality standards and basic OSHA/EHS safety regulations.
  • Advanced machining skills in disciplines such as Swiss lathe, multi-axis turning, milling, or grinding.
  • Ability to independently set-up and operate CNC equipment and train others.
  • Experience leading and managing a small team.
  • Effective communication skills to build rapport with a diverse team.
  • Strong understanding of operational metrics such as first pass yield and on-time delivery.
  • Strong computer skills, especially with ERP systems and Microsoft products.
